Folkestone, Kent once had four cliff lifts.

The Leas Lift Funicular Railway carrying passengers from the seafront and the promenade.

The present lift is over 120 years old and is the only one left and as gravity and water powered is a rare example of many such lifts which used to be found in other seaside resorts.

In this programme we trace the history of the four lifts and show how the Leas lift still provides a thrilling ride to the beach.
