Description
The remarkable story of how Settle’s old 1891 signal box was moved from its location of over one-hundred years to nearer the station.
The movement required special measures being put in place to make certain the structure was secure and steel bracing put around it.
A 90-ton road crane was hired in to lift the box onto six trolleys positioned across the main Settle-Carlisle Line which was closed and in a possession for track work elsewhere along the route.
This is the photographic story of the movement in 1997 and the restoration of the signal box as seen by photographs by Roger Hardingham.
