Opening Scene: 4771 Green Arrow leaves Howe & Co’s Siding for the last time on her present boiler certificate.
The Northern Belle: Steam returned to the North East of Scotland for the summer of 1992, with 44871 Sovereign working a series of Aberdeen to Elgin trains. This is the story of the first public run.
Mogul Mania: The Severn Valley’s Collett 2-6-0 9303 has been one of the summer’s stars – here we see her in action on the Valley, together with Stanier 2-6-0 Number 2968 and we chronicle the visit of Standard Class 4 Mogul 76079 to the Llangollen Railway.
Preservation Focus: The unique Bulleid calss Q1 – the ‘ugly duckling’ – is seen on its first run, 34072 and 4422 visit the East Lancs, M7 30053 at work at Swanage, Pannier 7752 and 4920 Dumbleton Hall alongside the River Dart in South Devon and 60532 Blue Peter’s one and only trip up the KWVR.
Cab Ride – Dundee to Edinburgh: Our first Class 158 cab ride takes us over both the River Tay and River Forth bridges through Fife. Plenty of semaphores here!
Regional Revival: The new Regional Railways’ livery looks good on Class 31s! This feature covers the Granada Telethon as well as 31s on passenger work in the northwest, 20s on the Derby to Skegness service and 37s and 47s on the Bristol to Weymouth line.
BR Newslines: ‘Breaking the ban’ with E5001 on the Southern, with a description of the locomotive as well as historic lineside footage, the green Class 26s in Scotland, 26s and 20s on the S&C and WCML. King’s Lynn goes ‘live’ (views of the revised Ely station), class 159 prototype at Salisbury and Bescot Open Day.
David Lloyd George: The Festiniog’s new £350,000 double Fairlie, in works primer and working trains on the railway.
Midland Freight: Double-headed Jinties on a long goods train on the Midland’s Trust’s metals in July. This was a special train for the benefit of photographers – with plenty of ‘clag’!
Main Line Steam: The theme is ‘hale and farewell’ as we say ‘goodbye’ to 4771 Green Arrow and Black 5 5305 and ‘hello’ to 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley. Also featured are 6201 and 60532 on the S&C, as well as 70000 and 71000 in North Wales, together with 45596 Bahamas and 6024 working to Stratford.
