LMS on Mainline Dvd, Part 1
The London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) was a British railway company formed on 1 January 1923 under the Railways Act of 1921.
In 1938, the LMS operated 6,870 miles (11,056 km) of railway but along with the other members of the ‘Big Four’ British railway companies (GWR, LNER and SR), the LMS was nationalised on 1 January 1948, becoming part of the state-owned British Railways.
The London, Midland and Scottish Railway had the largest stock of steam locomotives of any of the ‘Big Four’ Grouping.
Despite early troubles arising from factions within the company, the LMS went on to build some very successful designs; many lasted until the end of steam traction on British Railways in 1968.
Many engines survived into preservation including 18 of the very popular ‘Black 5’s’, 3 LMS Princess Coronation Class, 4 LMS Jubilee Class and many others.
Today many LMS engines have been restored by preservation groups and individuals running charters up and down the UK rail network.
From the Welsh Coast to the Scottish Highlands there is just about something for any LMS enthusiast featured in this programme.
With many engines working their hearts out including Royal Scots, Black 5’s, Jubilee’s tackling some of the steepest banks in the UK including Shap, Beattock, Beasdale, the Settle and Carlisle Railway and many others.
Sit back and enjoy some the most picturesque and breathtaking clips through all seasons around the UK, filmed from 2009 to 2012.
The dvd doesn’t feature commentary, allowing the engines to tell the story for themselves.
A wide range of shots are included, including passing steam services on the mainline, 46115’s epic trip over the S&C in the snow, a green Duchess on the mainline and much more.
A series of engines are featured including:
