Description
The lines from Kings Cross & Broad Street to the North in the early 1970s.
In the early 1970s Kings Cross and the suburban lines to Hitchin and Cambridge had changed little since the days of steam.
A wide variety of loco hauled services and DMUs worked an intensive timetable of semi-fast, all stations and express services.
This programme explores the route in the years after steam, and before electrification.
The programme comprises:
Kings Cross – The Station Area: A detailed exploration of the station platforms, concourse, stabling point and station throat with Class 40s, Deltics, Peaks, Cravens, DMUs and Class 31s.
Kings Cross – The Approaches: The complex of lines between Copenhagen and Gas Works Tunnels with a wide variety of workings including Deltics in 1970.
The Suburban Lines from Moorgate: A trip along Widened lines into Kings Cross and North to Finsbury Park.
The Hertford Loop: A journey in a DMU plus diverted trains with loco haulage.
A Journey from Cambridge to Kings Cross: Starting at Shepreth Junction the route is explored through Royston and Hitchin to Kings Cross.
In addition we include some ‘before & after’ scenes at Kings Cross to provide a comprehensive portrait of the East Coast Main Line into the Capital.
Approx. 60 minutes.
