Starting at Derby a northbound journey is taken to Stockport.
This includes steam locomotives doing battle with gradients up to the 1000 foot contour in both directions in the Derbyshire hills.
The northbound descent to Stockport is through Chapel en le Frith, Chinley and New Mills.
There is also a journey along the Hope Valley to Sheffield.
A detailed look at the Cromford and High Peak route with normal service freight and specials.
A brief look at the Crich Tramway in its earlier days and the fascinating engines at Wirksworth Quarry are also included.
To reach Stockport there is detailed coverage of the line through Romiley and Strines with a visit to Hayfield.
