A comprehensive survey of West Coast passenger and freight services.

The West Coast Main Line plays host to a good variety of motive power, both diesel and electric.

In addition it hosts a wide variety of freight and loco hauled passenger workings.

The line also possesses some of the best known vantage points on the network including the classic climb to Shap.

In this programme we provide a guide to the workings and motive power on the route from Euston to Carlisle.

It includes the major freight flows, the ‘Enterprise’ Network with 31, 56, 47 and 60 haulage, plus passenger workings from Class 37s to 86s, 87s and Class 90s on loco hauled workings.

Some on the best known vantage points are featured including Winwick Junction, Greenholme and Carlisle.

Some of the items included:

Class 20s on the short lived ‘milk train’. Deltics on a Charter, 87 101 on a special, Class 92s, Class 37s on MGRs, Class 31s and 47s on freight, Class 60s on oil and stone duties, 58 001 on freight, Class 56s on Wisbech vans and Enterprise traffic, first generation DMUs.
