We savour the delights of steam as it makes a triumphant return to the Capital.

Looking at steam in and around London after withdrawal by British Railway in 1966.

Starting with the preserved London North Eastern Railway A3 4472 ‘Flying Scotsman’ along with Great Western Railway King Class locomotive 6000 ‘King George V’ running during 1970s.

Then a look at the Rocket replica at work in Hyde Park during 1979.

In 1985 celebrations took place for 150 years of Great Western Railway and as part of the celebrations Great Western Railway Broad Gauge Replica ‘Iron Duke’ worked at Hyde Park.

Whilst London North Eastern Railway A4 4498 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ and London Midland Scottish Railway Duchess Class steam locomotive 46229 ‘Duchess Of Hamilton’ at London Marylebone.

Also working out of London Marylebone Southern Railway Merchant Navy Class Steam Locomotive 35028 ‘Clan Line’ working Shakespeare Limited.

Further excursions featured include:

The Great Western 150th Anniversary was celebrated by running steam specials out of Marylebone.

Steam on the Main Line is now a regular occurrence with specials being run by Steam Dreams, Kingfisher Tours and the Orient Express.
