The years after the end of steam on British Railways were often ignored by photographers.

In this programme we compile a series of scenes of the diesel era during a period of transition.

Manchester to Sheffield via Woodhead in 1969: With Passenger and Freight.

Class 40s on the Royal Train.

Class 25s and Class 40s at Carnforth.

Deltics at York.

Class 40s and Deltics: On the East Coast Main Line in the late 1960s.

Bristol in 1965: With ‘Peaks’, ‘Warships’ and ‘Westerns’.

‘Hymeks’: At Mangotsfield, Worcester and the Central Wales Line and a Class 40 in Scotland.

Exeter in 1974: With ‘Westerns’ and Class 31s.

BRCW Type 3s and Brush Type 4s: On the line from Bournemouth to Weymouth in 1967.

Yeovil from 1965 to the 1970s: With ‘Warships’ Type 1s, Class 33s, Class 45s and Class 40s.

1970s Miscellany: Featuring Hastings Units, Class 50s and the Midland Main Line in 1977.

Plus: Midland St Johns, an 03 at Newcastle and Deltics at Kings Cross.
