An exploration of steam throughout Wales in the days of working steam.

Gateway to Central Wales: Shrewsbury with former Great Western classes working alongside LMS designs, and in the later years of steam the BR Standards. ‘Manors’, ‘Halls’, Standard 4s, Black 5s, 56xx and Panniers are featured on both passenger and freight.

Through Mid Wales to the Coast: The winding and steeply graded line from Shrewsbury to Machynlleth. ‘Manors’ and Standard classes feature on the ‘Cambrian Mountain Express’ including the climb to the summit at Talerddig.

Along the Cambrian Coast: Barmouth to Pwllheli in steam days plus the cross country route to Ruabon.

Through Central Wales to the Coast: Rare footage of the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen line and the Cardigan Branch. Also Three Cocks Junction, and the Central Wales route via Builth Wells.

Contrasting Main Lines: Steam along the North Wales coast with LMS traction, and steam in South Wales with former GWR designs. ‘Castles’, Panniers and Black 5s are just some of the classes featured.

Border Steam: Film from the Welsh Borders with the Llanfyllin branch, Wrexham and Pen-y-fford.
