A look back at Britain’s premier main line and its development from a steam to a diesel railway and later electric railway.

The 1960s: The early years of dieselisation with scenes at Kings Cross and the London suburbs in 1963/64. Class 15s, Baby Deltics, Class 34s, Class 31s, Class 40s, Class 47s and Deltics. Also includes the route north through York to Newcastle.

The Early 1970s: Deltics in action in their pre-TOPS numbers. The famous stabling point at Kings Cross. Class 31s on Great Northern suburbans. Class 46s and 47s on passenger services and freight traffic.

The Late 1970s & Early 1980s: The introduction of HSTs, and the demise of Deltics, plus Class 40s and the Peaks still in traffic.

The 1980s: The HSTs and the arrival of the Class 91s.

The 1990s: Class 90s and 91s on express duties as well as a variety of freight behind Class 31s, 37s, 47s, 56s and 58s.
