The East Coast Main Line DVD, Volume 3 – From Peterborough to Newcastle.

The East Coast Main Line from Kings Cross to Edinburgh enjoyed a reputation for speed unmatched by the other competing routes to the north. In this, the third volume of this series, we look in detail at the main line through Grantham, Doncaster, York and Darlington to Newcastle.

Part 1 – Through the Eastern Counties to York: Comprising A4s north of Peterborough, Freight traffic on the branch to High Dyke, Stoke Bank, Grantham, the ‘flat’ crossings at Retford and Newark, Steam around Retford, Doncaster and the Selby Diversion.

Part 2 – York to Darlington: A look at York Station, shed and yards with a range of motive power including A4s, A2s, B1s, V2s, A1s and B16s. Plus Darlington with diesel and steam traction over a twenty-five year period.

Part 3 – Darlington to Newcastle: Steam at Newcastle in the 1960s. As well as the classic East Coast Pacifics we look at a number of freight classes including the J72s and Gresleys V1 and V2 tanks.

Part 4 – Motive Power Changes: The rundown of steam and the introduction of the ‘Deltics’ followed by the HSTs and more recently the 91s on new electric services.

Approx. 50 minutes.
