In a special arrangement with the BBC, we release for the first time on DVD this delightful film produced and screened on BBC Two on Christmas Day 1971.
The late David Shepherd CBE FRSA FGRA really was a man who loved giants and quickly rose to world-wide fame when he exhibited his amazing wildlife paintings at an exhibition and sale in New York.
From that successful exhibition he was able to purchase two steam locomotives from British Rail and save them from being scrapped.
His great passion for steam is seen when he purchased his two locomotives, Black Prince and Green Knight which survive today for people to enjoy.
He developed his love for steam by starting his own steam railway in East Somerset at Cranmore bringing joy to many thousands of people where he would often be seen greeting people and signing prints.
This programme is presented by film actor James Stewart and begins in David’s beloved Africa where he developed his passion for conservation.
The film captures the moment when David was asked by the RAF to reproduce the refuelling of an aircraft in flight – on canvas!
Approx. 50 minutes.
