A journey in the cab of the ‘Boston Steel’ empties from Washwood Heath near Birmingham to Boston in Lincolnshire.

We travel via Water Orton, Tamworth, Burton on Trent, Nottingham and Sleaford.

On the way we explore the railway, the stations, junctions and signalling and include scenes from 20 years ago.

The COLAS Fleet: Timber and Intermodal traffic, the company’s 66s, plus the COLAS 47s on engineering and freight traffic.

Washwood Heath to Stenson Junction: From the cab with a look at freight traffic at Tamworth, Elford Loop and Wichnor Junction.

Through Trent Junctions to Nottingham: From the cab and a look back at freight at Trent South Junction in 1989 plus Nottingham Station and its surroundings and present day traffic on the line.

Cross Country to Boston from the cab: Including scenes at Boston Docks, the semaphore signals and signal boxes as we cross Lincolnshire.

Includes a Bonus Feature ‘Journey around Birmingham’: With views from the cab on a circuit from Washwood Heath through New Street Station and the Birmingham suburbs.

Plus archive film of the route in the 1970s.
