Description

A distinctly Victorian development – they first entertained seaside holiday makers in 1875.

Featuring the’ ups and downs’ of Britain’s Cliff Lifts.

Nearly all of them are seen and archive footage used to show older cars in service.

Using black/white still photographs and archive film, plus recent footage, the cliff funiculars and lifts of Great Britain are featured, with long lost examples being included along with those still in operation today.

From Aberystwyth to Southend, fifteen locations are visited:

Folkstone (had four lifts)

Hastings (has two lifts)

Plus vertical lifts at Brighton, Ramsgate, Margate and Whitby.

Including the Clifton Rocks funicular which closed in 1934 with tracks and cable still in position.
