The Terry Nicholls Collection.

The Somerset and Dorset closed in 1966.

A local enthusiast and railwayman, Terry Nicholls, whose still photography is quite well known, whose work has been published in the Glorious Years in the Steam Railway magazine, turned his cine camera to the line in its last two years.

Unlike some programmes of the line, this covers the Bristol to Bath via Mangotsfield route before venturing south to Templecombe and the Highbridge branch from Evercreech.

Specials are also covered right up to the last day of working, with 4F, 8F and West Country pacifics.

A look at the much loved Somerset & Dorset line in its last years from the very capable cameraman Terry Nicholls.

Beginning at Bristol the film covers the route to Bath Green Park via Mangotsfield and the Avon Valley line.

Scenes at Bath include a Britannia Pacific visiting on a pigeon special.

After climbing to Devonshire tunnel, various lineside locations are used to view trains via Midford and Radstock to Evercreech Junction.

Visit the Highbridge branch with ex-GWR 0-6-0s and Ivatt tank engines.

A visit to Templecombe follows before in-depth coverage of the railtours visiting the line in its last year with 4F, 8F, Standards and Bulleids.

Finally a journey over the full length of the line from Bath to Bournemouth on the last day of operation behind an 8F and Standard tank.

All the archive film used is in colour and an authentic soundtrack has been added along with an extensively researched commentary.

Approx. 60 minutes.
