Description

Description

A programme covering the railways of North East Scotland from Inverness to Aberdeen and through Strathmore to Perth.

Steam was eliminated from the Northern Division early but by using the preserved Highland Railway 103 and Great North of Scotland No.49, we can re-live the route via Forres and Keith in 1962.

Aberdeen is covered from 1961 to 1966 with A2, A3, A4, B1, WD and J37 classes from the LNER and Black 5 and 4F classes from the former LMS.

The Ballater branch still lived, albeit with DMU, and we travel the whole line, the Deeside line closing in 1966.

Southwards via Stonehaven and Kinaber the line through Strathmore is seen at Forfar, Leysmill and Careston.

Caledonian motive power takes us along the Blairegowrie and Bankfoot branches.

Back at Aberdeen the A4’s had arrived amongst B1’s, V2’s and Standards.

On to Perth via Stonehaven and Forfar.

Pickersgill 4-4-0’s at Leysmill and Blairgowrie.

The Highland line from Inverness to Perth is seen in 1962 with diesel power with a detailed look at the Aberfeldy branch.

The Aberfeldy branch, by Type 2 diesel, did exist then.

Perth in 1962 boasted a variety of motive power. Caley tanks were still station pilots, 4Fs still worked transfer freights.

A1, A2, A3 and A4 pacifics worked mainline trains helped by V2s, LMS 2-6-4T and Black 5.

The Duchess and Clan pacifics worked in from Carlisle.

Approx. 60 minutes.
