B&R 106 Dvd: Steam Routes North to Shrewsbury

This film covers the route from Gloucester to Shrewsbury.

Steam around Gloucester means a visit to the Golden Valley for the Chalford autos and other passing trains.

Plenty of GWR steam from Stonehouse Junction to Gloucester.

Gloucester to Hereford via Ross on Wye.

Newport to Hereford via Abergavenny.

Lines from Three Cocks and Merthyr to Brecon.

Swansea to Craven Arms and steam specials in the 1970’s.

North to Shrewsbury.

The various routes and branches that could be used in the 1960s to reach Shrewsbury from the south.

These are seen on a journey from Gloucester via Hereford, Newport to Hereford and Swansea to Shrewsbury via Craven Arms and the Central Wales line.

A branch from Hereford to Three Cocks and Brecon is also included.

This all colour compilation uses mainly archive steam film from the early 1960s and shows main line and branch line working including the Stroud Valley trains to Sapperton, such as the Chalford auto workings in depth.

Occasional use is made of main line steam workings on the North and West route of the 1970s and early 1980s for continuity with engines no longer seen on the main line today.

Many ex-Great Western and LMS types are seen from a Compound to Castles and numerous Prairies and mixed traffic types.

Compiled with care and an authentic soundtrack, the story of these lines is told on an informative commentary.

Approx. 60 minutes.
