Description

A wonderful and nostalgic journey up the Highland mainline in 1965 from Perth station and see the line and its stations up to Inverness, then on to Wick and Thurso, with a trip from Kyle of Lochalsh in an observation car.

Filmed during the mid 1960s when steam power was very sparce and the Type 2 diesels were in charge with an occasional ‘Black Five’.

We also have a rare interlude to Grantown-on-Spey and via Elgin and Forres back to Inverness. By this time Type 2 Sulzer diesels were in charge with an occasional glimpse of a Stanier Class ‘5’ working.

Our film maker, the late E.W. Yardley, was able to spend some considerable time stopping off at various important points to film for us some interesting train movements and architecture of the stations.

Altogether, a marvellous record of these lines before the advent of further station closures and reduction in classic Highland infrastructure.

Approx. 55 minutes.
