Description

Description

The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is one the UK’s very few complete branch lines, running from the busy town of Keighley, passing Ingrow West, Damems, Oakworth, Haworth and to the small village of Oxenhope, 660ft above sea level.

The original railway dates back to 1867, providing a much needed transport system for the many mills along the Worth Valley route.

The line survived until 1962 when it was deemed non-profitable due to competition from roads and other transport methods, the railway was closed by British Railway’s in 1962.

When British Railways closed the Worth Valley line in 1962, local people and railway enthusiasts joined forces to try and save it.

A Preservation Society was formed and after many years of volunteer struggle the line re-opened to passenger traffic on 29th June 1968.

Since then, the railway has gone from strength to strength and is now recognised as a leading tourist attraction in Yorkshire, carrying thousands of passengers every year.

This double disc DVD showcases the railway from the last decade, including footage between 2008 and 2018.

This DVD was produced and launched at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway’s 50th Anniversary Gala in 2018, footage from 2018 is included from the spring only.
