The recently overhauled A3 Pacific which was re-launched in January 2016 is quite probably the most famous steam locomotive in the world.

Following its £4.2 million pound rebuild, No. 60103 has graced the main line again after more than ten years.

Flying Scotsman is still considered to be the most famous locomotive in the world and recent publicity has brought the general public’s interest in this locomotive to the forefront.

This dvd features rare archive film from British Pathe News of the locomotive at the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley in 1925.

A brief history of the locomotive which was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley.

Also viewed is its 40th anniversary 1968 non-stop run from Kings Cross to Edinburgh and of its last run in 1963 and purchase by Alan Pegler.

Film of the locomotive being shipped/preparations for export to the USA in 1969 from Liverpool Docks.

We also feature archive of the locomotive in BR times and follow its fortunes and misfortunes since purchase by Alan Pegler in 1963.

Rescue by Sir William McAlpine in 1973 is followed by the involvement on Tony Marchington and the next stages in its ownership from 2004.

Including archive film of its activities on the main line right up to 2003.

Footage on display at York Railfest in 2004 following the successful public appeal to purchase it for the nation.

Film of the test runs of No. 60103 on the East Lancs Railway following its extensive overhaul.
