2011 has been another eventful and enjoyable year on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
2011 has seen the railway celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the Whitby and Pickering Railway and to celebrate the occasion the railway has held several special events.
The first major event of the year was the Spring Steam Gala which was spread across ten days which featured visiting engines BR 4MT No.80072, BR 8P No.71000 ‘Duke of Gloucester’, ‘Rocket’ and ‘Planet’.
The ten days featured a massive collection of trains running including freight, local, vintage and passenger services.
2011 also saw the naming of BR 9F No.92214 which arrived at the railway last year, 92214 was named ‘Cock o’ the North’ during Good Friday of 2011.
One of the most iconic structures of the NYMR was opened during 2011, Pickering roof was completed after work was carried out to construct the roof over the Winter during early 2011.
Shots are included throughout the year of the iconic structure.
Several photo charters are included on the double disc DVD set including freight charters with BR 4MT No.80072 (Re-numbered as 80116), LNER J72 No.69023 ‘Joem’ and GWR Manor No.7822 ‘Foxcote Manor’.
A wide selection of locations are included between Grosmont and Goathland.
The 26th May 2011 was the official 175th Anniversary of the opening of the Whitby and Pickering railway, to celebrate the occasion LMS 5MT No.45428 hauled a special ‘Pullman’ service from Whitby to Pickering and back.
Also playing part in the celebrations was the UK’s newest steam engine BR A1 No.60163 ‘Tornado’. ‘Tornado’s’ visit also marked the first public trains since the engine was repainted in the livery BR Brunswick Green.
The Autumn Steam Gala featured visiting engine GWR Manor No.7822 ‘Foxcote Manor’ from the Llangollen Railway, the event featured a wide range of the home fleet over a weekend of glorious weather.
The annual Wartime Weekend was again a massive success and this year the event also featured visiting engine GWR Manor No.7822 ‘Foxcote Manor’.
Footage is also included from several normal running days throughout the year, Santa Special services, the February Half term Vintage trains and much more.

As footage has been captured throughout the year, our DVD takes you through footage from all outlooks of the railway taking you through the breathtaking autumn colours of the moors, the bare, cool wintry scenes and the stunning greenery available throughout the spring and summer months.
Trackside footage is included on the DVD from the photo charters with 7822, 80072 and 69023; footage is included from all walks of the 18 mile line including extra footage from the mainline to Whitby from Grosmont.
