Thrill to the unforgettable experience of a Deltic at speed, witness the strength as we see the Type 5s restart trains following station stops and enjoy the grace and style of these most characteristic machines as they power through the landscape.

In addition to footage of the Deltics taken shortly after their introduction in the early 1960s, much of the material includes scenes filmed during the period 1978 to 1981, capturing the Class 55s at work in their latter years, at a time when the ECML was witnessing great change.

On the way from York to Edinburgh, we feature famous East Coast locations such as Newcastle and Berwick, plus for good measure there is a brief sequence showing Deltics in action north of the Scottish capital.

While we can fortunately still witness surviving examples of the Deltic fleet on occasional charter work, this programme turns the clock back to the days when the Class 55s were a glorious everyday sight.
