Description

The sight and sound of the mighty `Deltics’ is celebrated in this exciting programme as we follow the `Napier’ roar from London to York.

Much of the material was filmed between 1978 and 1981 and captures the Class 55s at work in their latter years at a time when the ECML was witnessing great change with the increased appearance of HSTs and the spread of the overhead power masts north from the capital, London.

Featured locations include King’s Cross, North London suburbs, Potters Bar, Hitchin, Sandy, Huntingdon, Peterborough, Grantham, Newark (including the famous flat crossing), Retford, Doncaster and York.

We also take a brief look at Deltic workings on the Hull to Doncaster line.

To draw the proceedings to a close we present a proud roll call of the names of all 22 Class members – those glorious ‘racehorses’ and ‘regiments’.

If this presentation leaves you breathless, the we will be bringing you more ‘top notch’ power in a second volume of East Coast Deltics, when we continue our journey north from York to Edinburgh Waverley.
