In the early 1980’s, two professional cameramen had the foresight to compile a video record of the rapidly changing railway scene in Yorkshire.

Their footage has been combined to produce a unique and fascinating video archive – ‘York to the Pennines’.

Digitally re-mastered in conjunction with Traction Magazine and including an extra ten minutes of archive footage, York to the Pennines Plus is an essential addition to any diesel enthusiast’s collection.

The programme features diesel traction from early 1980s, such as a Class 24 on the Grassington branch and D200 on one of its first outings since restoration heading the ‘Hadrian Pullman’.

A Class 45/1 ‘Peak’ stands beneath the impressive station roof at York at the head of a rake of coaches, about to depart with a ‘TransPennine’ service.

BR green ‘celebrity’ Class 40 D200 ‘whistles’ across the Fells with a passenger train on the famous Settle & Carlisle route.

At Grassington, a Class 24 runs round its stock having arrived with a railtour along a freight only byway.

If scenes such as this bring the memoires flooding back, then you should definitely enjoy this programme.

This is a revised, improved and extended version of a production originally released by CineRail entitled ‘York to the Pennines’, featuring the film work of two professional cameramen made mainly in the early 1980s.

They recorded the railway scene in parts of Yorkshire when loco-hauled trains were the norm on main line services and first generation DMUs still dominated the local services.

Some more recent footage has been included to compare the old and the new, but the majority of this programme is firmly rooted in the past.

Additional film has been included to complement the original content and further enhance this fascinating archive presentation.

So sit back and enjoy a trip back to the days when diesel locomotives were the rule rather than the exception as we travel from York to the Pennines.
