Amateur footage of British Rail in the 1970’s.
Highlights include:
A collection of silent archive film capturing main line traction and the growing heritage and preservation movement during the 1970s.
Barry Scrapyard 1971 with lines of withdrawn steam locomotives, plus North British Diesel Hydraulic D601.
Keighley & Worth Valley Railway 1971 and a ride behind Black 5 45121 before a visit to the shed to see 4MT 80002 and 5MT 5025.
Ore Station (Hastings) 1972 featuring Class 404 4-COR electric units in their final year of operation.
St Leonards Warrior Square Station 1972 and further 4-COR units are seen arriving and departing with local services.
West St Leonards Station 1972 and Bopeep Junction with 4-COR and 4-CIG units working the line to Eastbourne, whilst a Class 201 narrow body DMU with a train from Tonbridge pauses at the station.
Alresford and Alton 1973 a pair of Class 205 DMUs arrive and depart, exchanging the single line token to Alton.
We then take a ride along the line to Alton where the DMU departs.
Chelsford Station (Kent) 1973 features Class 201 and 205 DMUs, Class 415 EMUs and a light engine Class 71 electric locomotive.
Swanley Station 1973 with Class 205 DMUs and 415 EMUs.
London Paddington 1975 with a close up look at Class 52 D1011 ‘Western Thunderer’ and Prototype HST 252001 (43001).
Twyford 1975 we’re lineside with freight and passenger workings hauled by Classes 50, 52 and the prototype HST.
Buckinghamshire Railway Centre 1975 with SR 34016 ‘Bodmin’, 2MT 41313 and 46447 undergoing restoration.
Hitchin Station 1975 with electrification masts in place we see a variety of Class 31 and 47 hauled trains, as well as the overhead electrification train itself.
Barry Scrapyard 1975 and a much more detailed look at the locos in this 14 minute feature.
Many well-known engines that now grace the UK heritage lines are seen, many with names of preservation groups painted on their bodysides.
Steamtown Carnforth 1977 with LNER A4 4498 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ and A34472 ‘Flying Scotsman’ working railtours.
Didcot Railway Centre 1977 with double-headed GWR locos on the demonstration line and plenty of interesting engines on display.
North Yorks Moors Railway 1977 and locos at Grosmont before a run to Pickering.
37022 are seen at Grosmont with a railtour.
Beamish Museum 1977 we see Rowley Station before taking a tram ride and a look at the colliery railway.
Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway 1977 focusses on the days workings at New Romney featuring many British and Continental locos.
Please note: This DVD contains footage previously contained in an earlier BR in the 70s title, however over 40 minutes is new unseen footage.
