The motive power in this programme is over forty years old.

We take a look at a wide range of classes in recent months on a range of duties, and include archive to see how they once were.

Class 20s in 1990 and in 2009 on leaf clearing trains in East Anglia and on specials.

Class 31s in East Anglia in 1990 and the Network Rail 31s on Serco test trains in 2009 and on stock moves.

Class 37s in the Highlands in 1990 and throughout the network in 2009 including DBs 37 401, 37 670 in the Highlands and on specials, DRS power on RHTT duties, excursions and Serco Test trains.

The ‘Hastings’ Unit on tour and in 1985.

Class 47s in 1990 and DRS, West Coast, Colas and Advenza examples in 2009, inc. 47 501 and 47 832 on specials, steel traffic from Dollands Moor and scrap trains.

Class 33s in 1990 and West Coast veterans in 2009.

Class 86s on the West Coast Main Line in 1990 and on freightliner traffic in recent months.

Third Rail EMUs on the Lymington Branch.

Class 47s ‘Under the Semaphores’ on the ‘Yarmouth Drags’ plus film from twenty years ago.
