The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, one of the very few complete branch lines in the UK, held many successful events during 2018.
Including their famous Winter Steam Gala, an eight-day gala to celebrate their 50th Anniversary, the annual Beer & Music Festival, Vintage Services plus much more.
Spring Steam Gala, 9th – 11th March 2018: The Winter Steam Gala of 2018 was held during March 2018, visiting the railway was LMS 7F No.53808 from the West Somerset Railway, BR 7MT No.70013 ‘Oliver Cromwell’ from the Great Central Railway and LMS 5MT No.44871 from the East Lancashire Railway. Over the three day event a collection of engines put on an action packed show including passenger, vintage and freight services.
KWVR 50th Anniversary Gala, 24th June – 1st July 2018: The 29th June 2018 saw the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway celebrate its 50th anniversary of hauling passenger services, having operated its first passenger service in the summer of 1968, the railway held an eight-day gala to showcase the story of the KWVR over the last fifty years. Several visiting engines featured during the week including the headline visit from LMS 7P No.46100 ‘Royal Scot’, SR West Country No.34092 ‘City Of Wells’, GWR 77xx No.7714 and LMS 5MT No.45212. Also headlining the event was LMS 2MT No.41241, returning to public service after overhaul at Haworth. Returning in its 1968 KWVR livery the engine recreated the first passenger service from the 29th June 1968.
2018 Visiting Engines: 2018 has seen visits from LMS 5MT No.45212 and LMS 5MT No.44871. LMS 5MT No.45212 recently returned to steam in 2016 after an extensive overhaul and returned to the KWVR for the 50th anniversary celebrations. Before leaving to haul the summer season of ‘The Jacobite’ in Fort William, LMS 5MT No.44871 hauled services throughout the winter of 2017/18.
2018 Vintage Train Services: After many years of successful running, 2018 saw the return of the popular summer ‘Vintage Train’ running dates, utilising the vintage coaches restored by the Vintage Carriage Museum and the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Trust. Hauling services throughout the summer of 2018 was LMS 4F No.43924.
Beer & Music Festival – October 2018: Returning for another year was the very popular Beer & Music Festival, running an intensive service over the weekend 18th – 21st October 2018, trains were heavily packed and hauled by BR 4MT No.75078 and USATC S160 No.5820. A wide collection of running days are featured throughout the DVD including lineside shots, an aspect not usually available to the general public.
