Description

The North Norfolk Railway, also known as ‘The Poppy Line’ is one of the UK’s top preserved railways carrying passengers from the coastal town of Sheringham to Holt.

The railway was once part of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway owned by the Midland Railway and Great Northern Railway in Eastern England, which was formed in 1893.

After nationalisation of the railways in 1948, much of the M&GNR was closed by 1959.

The operating company, the North Norfolk Railway PLC was launched in 1965 along with the re-building of the railway.

In 1967 two steam engines were delivered to the railway ready for services to resume.

Today, the North Norfolk Railway runs from the coastal town of Sheringham through five miles of picturesque countryside to Holt, passing Weybourne and Kelling Heath.

The railway has achieved many successful tasks over the years, including Sheringham Crossing been reinstated with the UK National Rail Network allowing steam engines to arrive from around the UK.

Over the past few years many engines have graced their presence along the North Norfolk Railway, throughout this programme a wide collection of engines are featured from the little to the large.
