Description
Cab Ride: Willesden Euroterminal to Calvert – Via Acton, Princes Risborough and Aylesbury.
The use of DCR Class 56 locomotives on the Willesden to Calvert spoil trains may well have been the freight highlight of 2013.
This is a cab ride on 56091, filmed on a fine sunny day in August, featuring the entire journey.
With just short of 1700 tonnes in tow, the journey starts in the busy west London freight area, finishing in the scenic Buckinghamshire countryside and the 56 has to work hard tackling the gradients of the Chiltern route.
Upon departure from Willesden and a run-round move at Mitre Bridge Junction, we run forward to Acton and the Great Western mainline before taking the Greenford branch at West Ealing.
Joining the Chiltern mainline at South Ruislip we continue to Princes Risborough and take the single line to Aylesbury, then forward onto the old Great Central mainline, now a freight only single line to the landfill site at Calvert.
As well as the cab ride itself, we pass a staggering number and variety of passenger and freight trains and there is a thrash camera located in the rear cab, recording the 56 hard at work.
Upon arrival at Calvert the unloading and run-round move is shown.
Includes maps, part narration and on-screen captions.
Produced with the full assistance of DCR.
