In steam days the routes from London to the North hosted a remarkable range of traction and workings.

In this programme we concentrate on the line from Euston to the North, but also include aspects of the neighbouring main lines.

Kings Cross: Including A1s and A4s on the line to the north.

The Midland Main Line: Cricklewood and Kentish Town shed in the late 1950s with everything from 9Fs to veteran Midland Compounds.

The West Coast Main Line: With the shed at Willesden. Also Euston station, its approach and workings are explored in the late 1950s including special trains.

North from Euston: Euston and its approaches, with Camden Bank and Camden Shed.

The line through Wembley to Bletchley is then shown in the late 1950s and 1960s with a wide range of classes, from Duchesses and Scots to Black 5s and 8Fs.

Locations include Watford, Kings Langley, Tring and Cheddington.

Specials: With the LCGBs North Western Branch Lines of June 1958 with a 4-4-0 for motive power.

Plus the Wolverton Works Ramsbottom Saddle Tanks.

Also the South Beds The Banburian of September 1962 from Luton to Bletchley and Banbury.

Off The Beaten Track: Featuring the Nickey Line from Harpenden to Hemel Hempstead including The Nickey Railtour in September 1960 featuring 2-6-2 tank 40026.

Plus the Branch Line Societies tour of the 12th March 1961.

Diesel & Electric: Era with Peak D4, EE Type 4s, Type 2s and electrics in the 1960s.
