‘The Great Britain’ returned for its seventeenth annual tour of the UK in April & May 2025.
Travelling across England, Scotland, and Wales, passengers were treated to nine days of steam-hauled action, including many unusual and rare routes for steam traction.
This product allows you to follow the tour from the lineside across days 1-9, with accompanying maps, location titles and gradient profile information.
From the south coast of England to the Far North Line in Scotland, you can sit back and watch all the action from various lineside locations.
Route Information:
Day 1: London Victoria to Bristol Temple Meads via Salisbury – Locations: Worplesdon, Shalford Junction, Buriton, Wallington Viaduct, Lockerley, Wylye and Bapton.
Day 2: Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff Central via Pembroke Dock, Fishguard Harbour and Milford Haven – Locations: Filton Abbey Bank, Miskin Bridge, Kidwelly, Lamphey, Trewern Bridge, Fishguard, Manorowen, Saint Ishmael and Pyle Station.
Day 3: Cardiff Central to Carnforth – Locations: Gatcombe Wood, Lickey Incline, Madley Woods and Garstang.
Day 4: Carnforth to Edinburgh via the Cumbrian Coast, Tyne Valley and East Coast Mainline – Locations: Grange-over-Sands, Cart Lane, Braystones, Nethertown, Workington, Bullgill, Scotby, Corby Viaduct, Sandy Lane (Wetheral) and Whinney Hill.
Day 5: Edinburgh to Inverness over the Highland Mainline – Locations: Forth Bridge, Gleneagles, Pass of Drumochter, Dalwhinnie, Kinveachy and Carrbridge.
Day 6: Inverness to Wick and return – Locations: Sibster, Kinbrace, Torrish, Rogart and Rosskeen.
Day 7: Inverness to Newcastle via Highland Mainlane and East Coast Mainline – Locations: Culloden Viaduct, Dalwhinnie, Jamestown Viaduct, North Queensferry Station and Grantshouse.
Day 8: Newcastle to Norwich – Locations: Picton, Burn, Metheringham, Manea and Thetford Forest.
Day 9: Norwich to London Kings Cross via East Suffolk Line – Locations: Halesworth, Little Bealings and Thurston.
The tour was steam hauled by: LMS 5MT No.45212, LMS 5MT No.45407 ‘The Lancashire Fusilier’, LNER A1 No.60163 ‘Tornado’, SR MN No.35028 ‘Clan Line’ and SR BoB No.34067 ‘Tangmere’.
