Description

Looking back at the many paddle steamers which once sailed the seas around the UK with some footage dating back to 1900.

This programme features approximately fifty paddle steamers of all ages.

We begin to look at the along various seaside resorts along the South Coast of English Channel with places visited such as Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Southampton as well as Isle Of Wight.

We also look at Bristol Channel including a brief trip on board Glen Usk of 1914.

Then a trip on board Charlotte Dundas of 1961 along the Kennet & Avon Canal.

On-board St. Tudno of 1890 around the Mersey with further action being shown at Blackpool.

Action then takes us into Scotland and among the paddle steamers we have the opportunity to see life on board Jeanie Deans of 1931 along the Clyde.

Other paddle steamer action can be seen with Maid of the Loch dating from 1953 sailing around Loch Lomond.

More Scottish paddle steamer action is shown around Forth and Tay.

We return to England along the Humber from Hull before finishing in London and the Thames among many paddle steamers including Isle of Arran of 1892, Golden Eagle of 1904, Medway Queen of 1924 plus many, many more.
