Steam locomotives doing the job they were built for.

This dvd is divided into three sections.

Archive Footage: Filmed in 1971. The opportunity is taken to describe the technical specifications of the locomotives seen throughout this programme. This section sees classes 354, 423, 433, 434, 464, 475, 477, 498, 524, 534 and 556 are all seen at work on all types of trains from International Expresses to freight and country branch line workings. Originally filmed on 8mm cine film.

1989: 475.179 4-8-2, 3 cylinder 477.043, 4-8-4T, 534.0432 and 556 class, 036 and 0506 2-10-0s with 2-8-0 number 434.2186 built in 1917 to Austrian KKStB specifications are all seen at work on ordinary scheduled passenger and freight services on the scenic 161km Pardubice to Liberec route and between Jaromer and Svoboda in the mountains near the Polish border. Filmed on Video 8.

1990: Four routes feature in this section, Decin to Ceska Lipa with class 475; Kralupy to Praha Stred via Kladno with the 477; 3 cylinder 4-8-2 498.022 between Nymburk and Mlada Boleslav and 434.2186 doing the honours on the Jaromer – Svoboda route.

This dvd also features a footplate journey on the 434.2186.
