Old Oak Common and the Great Western – Open Day 17-18 August 1991 - Dvd.

More than just an open day, this official Network South east colour dvd goes behind the scenes to show steam locomotives 3440 City of Truro, 5029 Nunney Castle, 6024 King Edward I, 6998 Burton Agnes Hall and 71000 Duke of Gloucester en-route from Didcot to Old Oak in the early hours of 16th August 1991.

Night footage until sunrise sees these engines being prepared and positioned around the turntable for the following day’s events. A descriptive narration is provided throughout including a brief history and views of classes 08, 31, 35 (Hymek), 37, 42 (Warship), 47, 50, 52 (Western), 55 (Deltic) and 56.A general history of Old Oak is given with visits to working parts of the depot not open to the public.

Two naming ceremonies and the ‘handing over’ of Ark Royal, 50035, are covered. Footplate footage aboard City of Truro and Burton Agnes Hall and also a journey in the cab of a class 60 from Paddington and return via the Greenford Loop on the ‘Greenford Grinder’. With a 59 on the rear lineside shots are shown. Model railways are not forgotten either, and the latest Network Turbo gets an airing.
