Swiss Passenger Trains Dvd

Switzerland is one of Europe’s major railway crossroads. Every day a succession of international passenger trains cross the country. Others have Swiss origins and destinations. There is also an S-Bahn network around Zurich.

This programme shows a wide range of more than a hundred passenger trains on the standard gauge rails of Switzerland. Everything from S-Bahn trains to international expresses are included with everything in between.

Swiss passenger trains have become more colourful in recent years. Long trains of coaches in unrelieved green are disappearing and being replaced with different liveries. Eurocity Trains with observation cars now run on some routes.

TGVs, ICEs and Italy’s Pendolino are now seen on a number of services and one of each is shown.

It is impossible to describe every train. Often the origin and destination is not known.

Apart from the introductions there is no commentary but there is still a lot of information to be gleaned from the programme.

Nearly all the trains were filmed in 1996 and 1997 although a few earlier shots have been included where the contents help to fill in gaps.

Introduced by John Cocking (1997).

Approx. 60 minutes.
