Railways of Netherlands Dvd

As the turn of the century approaches railways in the Netherlands are in a state of transition. Older types of locomotives such as the 1100s, 1200s and 1300s are fast disappearing to be replaced by ultramodern DD-IRM, SM90 and DM90 multiple unit trains. The elderly Blue Angel and diesel ‘dog-nose’ units are also on borrowed time.

The TGV, in the form of the Thalys, now joins Paris and Amsterdam and other EuroCity and EuroNacht trains run to Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria. These cross-border workings are shown in detail as are more mundane short distance international trains. International freight trains also play a large part in this programme including the working of the Bentheimer Eisenbahn which crosses the border to Coevorden.

The Netherlands may be flat but the many waterways and scenic features such as windmills add character to make this programme a true Dutch experience. A selection from all parts of the country is included.

The Hoorn-Medemblik Railway, Buurt Steam Museum and the veteran Amsterdam Tram Club add a preservation perspective to make the programme complete.
