Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Dvd: Autumn Steam Gala 2014

Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, the only complete branch line in the UK is well re-known for holding their annual Autumn Steam Gala.

The Gala is an important event on many enthusiasts’ calendars for holding a wide range of steam engines plus a mixture of freight, passenger and vintage services running along the picturesque five mile branch line.

The five mile branch line which runs from the busy town of Keighley to the small village of Oxenhope 660ft above sea level hosted a three day steam gala event featuring the launch of resident Southern 'West Country' No.34092 'City Of Wells' after a long overhaul at Haworth, returning after an absence of over 20 years.

Having returned to steam earlier in 2014, the Autumn Gala featured the engine running with name plates and running at its first gala event.

After an absence of 25 years, Southern Railway West Country No. 34092 ‘City Of Wells’ returned to the Worth Valley at the Autumn Steam Gala.

Built in March 1949 at Brighton, No. 34092 was one of the final twenty of its class to be built.

Originally named ‘Wells’ until November 1949, No. 34092 once again carried this guise at the Autumn Steam Gala, doubling headed services with LMS 4F No. 43924 to re-create ‘The Last Pines Express’.

Running over the cold, damp mornings of October 2014 a collection of engines tackled the steep gradients from Keighley to Oxenhope.

Other engines that featured at the event were from the home fleet of engines including USATC S160 No. 5820 featuring at its first gala event in its recently applied USATC grey livery.

Long term visiting engine LMS 5MT No. 45305 played a short part in the event due to failing with leaking boiler tubes.

Footage is featured from throughout all three days of the event including a collection of freight, passenger and vintage services along the whole five mile branch line.

Trackside footage is also included, an aspect not available to the general public.

Footage is included from a photo charter featuring BR 8F No.90733 running in replacement of LMS 5MT No.45305 hauling a short early morning freight train on a cold, foggy, atmospheric morning.

Bonus Footage:
Extra footage includes SR West Country No.34092 'City Of Wells' at the Worth Valley since returning to traffic earlier in 2014.

Long term visiting engine LMS 5MT No. 45305 recently visited the North Norfolk Railway during its short holiday away from the railway in August 2014.

Some of the steam engines featured include:

BR WD 8F No. 90733
