Servicing on the shed when the turntable stuck!

A comprehensive journey through Westbury, Welshpool, Talerdigg, Machynlleth to Aberystwyth.

Token exchanges vividly portrayed, an action packed railway so loved by enthusiasts to its last steam train in 1967.

The appeal of the Cambrian from Shrewsbury to the coast has not diminished over the years, but has certainly changed.

This is a programme of the line's steam age from 1961 to 1967.

The main line steam at Shrewsbury had enormous variety from Kings, Castles, Granges, Jubilees and freight types, working the North and West route as well as to London.

The many engines are seen passing through Shrewsbury station before visiting the engine shed for even more variety as the engines are serviced.

Turning, coaling and preparation duties are covered in this in-depth view of shed working.

Using a variety of Manor and Standard Class 4-6-0s, a return journey to Aberystwyth is made at many scenic locations in the last two years of steam traction over the route of the Cambrian Coast Express (CCE).

The working of this single line is seen and described in detail, such as the token exchange at various signal boxes.

The last down Cambrian Coast Express ran on 4th March 1967 with 75021 complete with wreath.

Russell Mulford, who took this film, has left us an excellent record of these lines and the ways of operating them in the age of steam.

Filmed in colour, there is an informative commentary and accurate authentic sound.
