B&R .64 Dvd: Along LMS Lines, Part 1

'Along LMS Lines’ is a series of films featuring steam traction along a variety of former LMS lines, in particular the West Coast main line.

In this, the first of the series, we look back at steam in the early 1960s between Euston and Stafford via the West Midlands.

We cover the changeover period from steam to electric traction between 1960 and 1966 with a vast variety of scenes of steam hauled trains such as Stanier Pacifics on expresses all the way up to the introduction of electric traction in 1966.

There are visits to Camden and Willesden sheds plus scenes of engines at speed taking water from Bushey troughs.

Travelling northwards, we reach Bletchley and Roade with nothing but steam before an extensive in depth look at Northampton and Rugby Midland.

Before the wires went up, there was much to delight the steam enthusiast, from Princess Royal's, Scots, Jubilees, Patriots and other LMS motive power, even a 2P 4-4-0.

Finally into the West Midlands to see the last Super Ds at work through New Street, Walsall and Bescot.

We visit the old Wolverhampton High Level station and see the trolleybuses outside!

The demand for LMS steam scenes seems insatiable.

Following on from our successful Lancashire & Yorkshire volumes we now look at the London & North Western lines.

We will cover the West Coast Main Line and some of its branches and secondary routes from Euston to Glasgow.

This first volume looks at the scenes of the 1960's from Euston to Stafford via Northampton, Rugby and the West Midlands.

With fifteen Duchess pacifics, four Princess Royals, Scots, Jubilees, Super Ds and Patriots, mixing it with Crabs, Jinties and Black 5s, we have it all in this programme.

Visit Camden and Willesden Sheds, steam over Bushey troughs, steam and early electrics at Watford Junction plus five different Duchesses at Bletchley.

More steam power at Roade and an in-depth look at Northampton with even a GWR interloper here!

The highlight of this programme has to be Rugby before and after the wires went up.

Four Princess Royals pass the camera, Duchesses galore, Jubilee, Scot, Standards and even a 2P 4-4-0.

There are sights of green liveried Class 40s and a WD.

Into the West Midlands with Super D and 8F at Saltley and Bescot.

There is a Scot and a Duchess at Wolverhampton High Level; the trolleybuses were still here and an industrial Garratt works a colliery.

This is how it was in the early 1960s.

Sheer magic.
