B&R .55 Dvd: Along LNER Lines, Part 1

A film of steam traction along the East Coast main line from Kings Cross to Newcastle and the North East of England where steam finally bowed out in 1967.

Our journey begins at Kings Cross and then we go north to Retford to see 02s in their last days in 1965.

We visit York in the same year, where we join the North Eastern Region of British Railways.

Darlington was the hub of the Region and the Works were famous here.

We pay them a visit which includes the celebrated ‘dump’.

After Newcastle, there is an in-depth look at the last steam engines to work the coalfields and power stations of Northumberland and Durham with Class J27, Q6, K1 and WD.

Locations for the action were Bedlington and Blyth, north of the Tyne, and around Sunderland, West Hartlepool and Ryehope Grange to the south.

Hall Dene, Silksworth and Seaton bank are seen in detail from the lineside, footplate and guards van.

We make visits to signal boxes at Tyne Dock, Ryehope and Bedlington to witness the passing steam locomotives.

To delight all LNER fans this programme portrays the end of North Eastern steam in Northumberland and Durham.

More than that, it includes a journey along the East Coast main line from Kings Cross when A1s, A3s and A4s ruled south of Peterborough.

Lineside action from Wood Green, Brookmans Park and Hatfield in 1962.

Visit Retford for 02 and WD, travel north to York via Doncaster.
