B&R 107 Dvd: Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Steam Archive

Jim Clemens Collection Volume 15.

The GWR preserved line is up and running successfully back to Cheltenham Racecourse.

But what was it like before closure?

Jim covered the whole route from Stratford upon Avon to Cheltenham and Gloucester from 1959 to 1966 along the route of the Cornishman express.

Castles, Hall, Granges, 9F's, Prairies and all manner of Standards and LMS power not to mention early diesels ran along this secondary main line.

Also included is the old S&MJR line from Stratford to Woodford Halse and the Kingham to Cheltenham via Andoversford line.

Express running to Gloucester via Churchdown completes this unique archive of film, never to be repeated or even bettered.

Another fabulous reminder of times past from the Jim Clemens collection.

This time the accent is on the Cheltenham-Honeybourne-Stratford line and some of its connections.

Scenes at the present Stratford-On-Avon in the early 1960s are seen, but the old station is but a memory on the Stratford and Midland Junction Railway.

We follow this line to Woodford Halse with line side views of the last SLS special over the line with a 4F, including earlier scenes from 1960.

The journey over the Stratford to Cheltenham line begins with many types of locomotives from Black 5s, Castles and Britannias working the Saturday West Country holiday expresses.

9Fs are on freights and a West Country Pacific encounters the local hunt.

In 1960, a 94xx works the local Honeybourne to Cheltenham all stations stopping service.

Activity at Honeybourne Junction, trains everywhere here, take us south towards Broadway with WD's, Halls, and a Manor.

Toddington is reached with archive film on today's successful Gloucester Warwickshire Railway through Winchcombe and Greet tunnel.

Some 1967 & 1968 views of early diesels working the route on Summer Saturdays.

The last BR diesel hauled specials at Cheltenham Racecourse Station in 1968.

Black 5 and Britannia hauled to Cheltenham Malvern Road.

These are Prairie hauled trains from Kingham to Cheltenham, St. James via Notgrove.

Finally the 4-track main line south to Churchdown with Prairies, Castles, Black 5s and WD 2-8-0s and a brief look at Gloucester with Jubilee and an LMS Compound among others.

Filmed in excellent colour for the later views and some black and white, an authentic sound track and informative commentary has been added.

Approx. 60 minutes.
